I’ve been doing the Tumblr thing lately. I feel like I’m cheating on myself, but right now it’s more appealing to me … I can make posts and share cool things I find on the internet with minimal effort. I honestly could be doing that here … I SHOULD be doing that here. I’ve had this site forever and really should take advantage of that (especially since people occasionally contact me to write about stuff in exchange for said stuff).
I haven’t been in the mood for a long time to come here and write out a long post about the boring things that are going on in my life. Who reads this stupid thing, anyway?
So … I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this site. Seems redundant to post the same stuff here and on Tumblr, but that’s probably what I’ll do. I was briefly considering canceling the hosting and just parking this on top of SFtB, but sitting here typing this up kind of convinced me that I shouldn’t change this site much (if at all), but not entirely sure if I’m going to continue to update much.
[EDIT] Found a WP plugin that makes a Share On… browser bookmark that’s pretty close to how you can post to Tumblr. Maybe I’ll start doing that more.

Today, kellybelly.net turns eight years old.
The archives only go back to 2005, because that’s when this site was reinvented into the current form. I don’t have any of the past incarnations documented*, especially after that one incident which caused my entire site to be wiped.
My resolution for the site’s ninth year is to actually update regularly. I keep saying that every so often, but I definitely need to actually do it.
So you guys will be able to get regular updates about nothing. Because that’s about all that’s happening.
* I probably do, on an old backup disk or something. It’s not worth it to dig around for something.
[edit] Just realized I originally registered the domain in December of 2001. It was July 3rd of 2002 when I moved to my current host/registrar. So I’m totally wrong on both counts. The site will be 8 years old in December, and today is the 7th birthday at my current “location.”

If you happened upon my site earlier this evening you may have noticed that nothing was here.
Long story short: Somehow, someone got the login information to my hosting account and uploaded some scripts to my site and sent a bunch of spam email, and my web host suspended my site to stop it.
The good news: I got access to my site back within an hour or so.
The bad news: My account had to be “re-provisioned,” which means wiped clean. For security reasons the host couldn’t restore any of the files nor give me a backup. I lost all my files, my email accounts and saved email… everything.
The good news: I had backed up my Wordpress database yesterday so the main part of this site was (mostly) restored right away.
The bad news: I haven’t backed up anything else on my site for about six months.
The bad news: There will be dead links and images around here for a while while I finish getting things back on track. I don’t have any videos uploaded — I think I’ll store most of the older ones on my .mac MobileMe disk and link to them. Which means I need to go through all my archives and change the links to the videos. Unless some htaccess magic will do it … There’s some little minor layout issues that will bug me for a while until I figure them out. But I’m picky and am sure nobody else will notice.
Ugh. Shitty end to a shitty day. I didn’t even have any liquor in the house…

Got the LJCrosspost plugin working again. Apparently when I changed some code to get it to work with the latest version of WP I deleted a critical line of code that shouldn’t have been deleted. Whoops.

I installed Wordpress a few days ago, and have been slowing switching everything over from my old blogging engine (Movable Type). I believe that I have enough of it completed, so I’ve decided to turn the new stuff “live.” All the old permalinks from my MT install should be the same as the imported posts in Wordpress — though I’m sure I missed a few here and there. If anyone notices a dead permalink, please contact me with the old link and I’ll fix it right up.
One nifty plugin I’ve found is that I can choose to crosspost entries over on my Livejournal. I guess this pretty much makes kellybellydtnet (the Livejournal syndicated account of my website) obsolete, since everything will just show up in my normal Livejournal anyway, and anyone that has friended both will get duplicate entries. So if you’re reading this on Livejournal, feel free to remove that journal from your friends list.
These new developments also mean that I’m going to be doing all (or the majority of) my blogging on my website, versus my LJ, as I have been doing the past few years. But then again, it’ll be blogged over on my LJ as well, so I guess I’m still using it. Or something.
Some wonkiness may arise the next week or so as I work the bugs out. I apologize in advance for any annoyance I may cause.
