Cooking Mama on iPhone

Cooking Mama on iPhone

Overall pretty fun — true to both the Wii and DS versions. There are a few actions that I keep failing (Peel while hot!) because what I do on the screen just isn’t registering. I’m curious to find out if I take the screen protector off if I do better.

I haven’t got too far in the game yet, but I do know that one of the major complaints is that there aren’t enough recipes. I’m sure more will come in future updates.

One thing I miss is Mama’s voice when you complete a stage. She’s mute in the iPhone version.

Ghetto blaster asscakes

Haha, that’s what I call them, as if their real name isn’t funny enough.

batter-blaster

Not sure if you’ve seen Batter Blaster in your local grocer’s dairy section (I found it by the eggs). I had seen it at the store a few months ago, had a WTF?! moment and promptly forgot about it, until I saw a review online a few weeks ago and I got the itch to try it. Apparently they’re so good that when I was at the supermarket some stranger stopped me when she saw the can in my hand and raved about them.

Basically, it’s batter in a whipped cream canister. You just “blast” out some batter into the pan and make pancakes (or waffles, if you swing that way). Sounds weird, but damn they’re tasty!

I love the idea because out of the two people in the house I’m the only one that likes to eat pancakes. It’s a royal pain to mix up a partial batch of batter when I get the hankerin’ for a few flapjacks, and I still end up wasting a bunch of ingredients (re-heated ‘cakes are nasty, IMO). Now I can keep a can in the fridge (I haven’t yet researched the shelf life of a can), and squeeze out a few asscakes whenever the mood strikes.

Maple-Bacon Lollipops

Yes, these are real, not the figment of some sick person’s imagination.

I saw them posted somewhere online last week, and … well … if you know me at all, you shouldn’t be surprised that I had to try them. Especially after my bacon cookie experiment… which I never talked about here, apparently. [The bacon cookie recipe was found here, and they were delish.]

My verdict? Yum. They’re very sweet (Obviously. It’s candy.) but neither the maple nor the bacon flavor is overpowering. I fully expected them to have that gross fake maple flavor, but I’m happy to say that is not the case. The bacon bits were interesting when they became uncovered, but they weren’t gross or anything and even had a bit of a crunch to them.

Lollyphile also makes an absinthe lollipop (yes, from real absinthe), which I wasn’t about to try. I’ve had absinthe before and wasn’t a fan of the licorice-y taste of it.

Kuma’s Corner

A few weeks ago Justin and I went to Kuma’s Corner for a late lunch. You may have heard about the place by its unofficial name — the “heavy metal restaurant.” All the burgers on the menu share their name with a band, and the music blaring over the speakers is not what you’d hear in most places. When we went we heard anything from Clutch to Mastodon to Slayer.

The place is small, and the wait for a table seems to be about 30-60 minutes no matter what time of day you go (we went around 4pm on a Saturday; Justin was there at 8-something on a Thursday night previously). It’s definitely worth the wait though, so stick it out.

I had the Melvins — this consists of fresh basil, prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato, and onion on top of a burger. All the burgers are served on a pretzel roll. I had mine with the chicken instead of beef (and you can also get a veggie burger in place of meat).

Let’s just say that I don’t eat a lot of food when I dine, so it’s very rare for me to polish off a full “burger.” But I ate the hell out of this one.

KeyLime Cove Grand Opening

I was invited to another media event at KeyLime Cove by Colleen with Public Communications Inc. The event took place last week on Thursday February 28th and Friday February 29th. I was very excited to be invited back to see how the place shaped up — it was pretty bare-bones the last time I saw it.

New camera: Holga 135BC

My most recent camera purchase was of a Holga 135BC toy camera. My New Year’s resolution was to not buy so many cameras and photography-related stuff… but yeah, that didn’t last long.

I already have a number of “regular” Holga cameras but I thought I’d give this one a try since it seemed pretty neat.

Yesterday I finished my first roll and developed it, and I gotta say… I really like what I get from this camera. Being winter and low on daylight hours I haven’t had a chance to shoot many interesting things (all we have around here is snow), but this little camera will definitely get a workout once spring/summer hits. I took some indoor flash photos that turned out surprisingly well, so I may make this my “party camera.”

The whole set can be viewed here, but below are three of the better shots from the roll.
