Happy 4th!
Technally it’s the 5th, but whatever.
Good god, I want to stab myself with my fork after watching just a few minutes of this “instructional” video…
I admit, I bought the game. I’m a big fan of the first three Guitar Hero games on the PS2 and the 360 and I thought it would be fun to have a portable version of the game. I also justified it by deciding not to upgrade my iPhone next month, so that’s a few hundred dollars I can spend on other stuff saved. Besides, I have a SuperCard/SuperKey so I haven’t bought a DS game in … years, I think.
The graphics are much to be desired, but I’m spoiled by the HD-goodness of the 360. Gameplay is fun enough and you get used to “strumming” on the touchpad fairly quickly. Hand cramps are a definite side effect given the small size of the buttons and how you have to hold the controller. Though I have little dainty fingers so they’re more my size vs. the huge guitar controller for the 360. If you have larger hands, you’ll find the game kind of hard to play.
Worth it to keep me busy on my lunch break (and extended trips to the bathroom).
What a weekend it was!
Friday: The Return of The ELVi!!
After work we headed over to the C & B Ranch to meet up with the rest of the band, then headed out to the Gasthaus in Elgin. There were seven bands playing, The ELVi were on fourth, with VBS playing last.
The show was so much fun. It was really good to see The ELVi play again… it’s been well over three years! So many people came out to see them play…. hell, Dan flew in from LA just for the show!
We finally made it home around 3am, though I don’t remember anything past like… 1am.
Saturday: Moving Day
We woke up around 9am to help my mom move. Miserable day — the weather was sunny and in the 80s — much better than rain but really a bit too warm to be carting stuff up and down stairs. We got done with that around 4pm, and met up with some friends shortly thereafter.
[Ugh. My site crapped out for a little bit and I lost half this post even though it says it had auto-saved it. I really don't want to re-type the entire rest of it again. But I will. Because I love the three of you that will read this.]
We headed to the city to see The Life and Times and Swervedriver. Of course, the trip also included a visit to Pita Inn for dinner. Chicken schwarma, yum.
Sunday: Father’s Day
Finally, a day to rest and relax…
Started the day off with a trip to Arlington Height and the cemetery, then ran to the store twice for groceries and other stuff (aka: drinks) for dinner, then to J’s parents’ house for a BBQ.
I feel like I need a few days off to recover from the weekend.
Just closed out another month of photos for Project 365. I missed a few days here and there, mostly because the day was bo-ring and I was lazy.
Ten more months to go… eesh.
Were toys really that sucky back in the 60s? Good lord, that doesn’t even look fun.
[EDIT] Even better version under the cut…
We went to the late-night flea market (8pm-2am) at the fairgrounds the other day. I picked up a Ricoh Auto Shot to add to my collection. Normally I only buy cameras that I check beforehand to make sure they’re usable… even though they’re in my collection I like to shoot a roll to test the camera out, and see the results.
This new camera though, I was unable to test. When I opened the back I saw that there was a roll of film loaded in there.
So I plopped down my $5 for the camera and took it home and developed the film. It was Plux-X Pan, so I developed it in the kitchen sink.
Unfortunately, there were only two images on the roll:
As for the camera? It doesn’t work.
Eh, a bit late since it’s almost the weekend again. But I haven’t updated for a while and I didn’t have anything else to talk about.
Friday:
Not much. Dinner at Friday’s then some Halo.
Saturday:
Walked around Six Flags for a bit, then a quick side trip to Oberweis (the have the best chocolate peanut butter ice cream). Then a bit later we had dinner at Pat’s Pizza, and played more Halo.
Sunday:
We headed out to Glencoe to catch the Midwest Bonsai Society’s show at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Almost missed it this year; didn’t find out about it until shortly before we headed out. I picked up a small Ficus salicifolia (willow leaf fig) to add to my collection.
Once we got home we relaxed and played more Halo. Then Justin went out to jam a bit in preparation for the upcoming Elvi show.
Yesterday I picked up the Wii Fit. It’s pretty fun, and a few of the games/activities really wear you out.
We’ll have to hit Six Flags this weekend and try out the newly-opened Dark Knight.
I finally got off my ass and finished up with my crafty project… and the results have been listed over on etsy. So go shopping.
