Kids these days … (plus a weekend preview)

I got stuck behind a school bus this morning on the drive into work. Normally it’s not all that annoying, but this bus was picking up kids that lived in an apartment complex. The complex only spanned a few blocks, but the bus had to stop at Every. Single. Block. to pick up kids. Can’t the kids walk a block or two so there only is one bus stop in the area? Are they really that lazy?

When I was in school (”When I was your age…”) I remember having to walk anywhere from 3-5 blocks to get to the neighborhood bus stop. Any kid that lived within a half-mile or so had to walk there to catch the bus. Hell, I even remember my sister having to actually walk to school in kindergarten, which was a good mile or two away! She only did that a week or two until she transferred to a different school, but still. She was five years old.

In other news …

Tonight we’re heading to Mickey Finn’s Amber Room to see our buddies in AF-Kin. Should be fun — their shows are always a good time.

There’s a rumor going around about a Monster Trux party on Saturday. Should be fun as well… haven’t seen those guys in forever.

Sunday I start SparkPeople’s Official Swimsuit Bootcamp, so I’m in for a month-long strict diet and exercise program. I’m actually excited about it. I do a lot better with set guidelines and rules than if I’m allowed to do stuff all willy-nilly (it’s chaos!).

Next Wednesday we’re braving traffic and construction and heading down to the city to see Local H. I’m excited — I haven’t seen them since I was in high school (or shortly out of high school), so that’s about … twelve years. Yikes. Local H is performing songs from their album Ham Fisted, so it’ll be a night of good old-school rock. Ah, those were the days…

Have a great weekend!
