Hi - I found your video post via icerocket.com. I saw the egg cooking post at Boingboing and began searching for some brave soul who had actually tried this!
If anything, the radio is to provide enough sound to keep the phones transmitting, versus continuously talking into one of the phones.
OTOH - check out the rest of the articles on their site - I suspect the egg cooking article is a prank, as is the rest of the articles on this page:

Yeah, I’d read some of the other articles on their site. I’d also read a few other articles online (Engadget, for one), and was pretty sure it couldn’t be done and/or that it was a joke. I thought it would be a fun thing to try anyway, and gave me something interesting to make a video of.
